Fr Wayne David is our school Chaplain. He was born in 1974 and brought up in Pontypridd.
Having trained at St Michael’s Theological College, he became a Deacon in 2007 and was ordained a priest by the Most Reverend Dr Barry Morgan, Archbishop of Wales and Bishop of Llandaff the following year. He served a Non Stipendiary Minister role as Assistant Curate in the Benefice of Merthyr Tydfil St David and Abercanaid from 2007-2010 and then as the Assistant Curate in the Parish of Glyntaff, Rhydyfelin and the Graig until joining us in 2014.
He holds a BA (Hons) with QTS from the University of Birmingham. He has been a teacher for over twenty years, nine of those being a Deputy Head Teacher in Newport.
The Chaplain is responsible for the spiritual well being of the school, including the provision of the chapel and cathedral worship in which the community participates. He is the Chorister Pastoral Tutor and also teachers Religious Studies and Design and Technology to pupils in Years 3-7.
His interests are singing and playing musical instruments including piano, organ and guitar. He has sung with various choirs and played the organ in many cathedrals including, Southwark, Liverpool, St Paul’s London, Bath, Westminster Cathedral, Westminster Abbey and the Basillica of the Sacre Coeur in Paris. He enjoys travelling as well as cycling, riding his motorbike in the summer, walking and gardening.
Father Wayne is available to offer sacramental and pastoral care along with spiritual guidance to the whole school community. He is available to pupils, staff and other members of the Cathedral School community at all times inside the school term and, where possible, within the holidays as well.
Many members of the school community turn to Father Wayne for support with significant family events including baptisms, weddings and funerals. If you would like Father Wayne to preside over an event like this at your local church, it is important that you speak to your local minister first as they will need to give their permission.
